Notes for Henry Dorset Teague: John and Henry Teague
John and Henry Teague, father and son, came to Parke County with their families in the year 1829. They came from Guilford Co., NC to become pioneer settlers in the newly-established state of Indiana. Together John and Henry entered land in Washington township obtainig their grant

from the land office in Crawfordsville with a sheepskin deed signed by Andrew Jackson. Eighty acres of this original grant has remained in the Teague family ever since and at present is owned by a great-great grandaughter, Catherine Teague Jackson.
The house on this acreage is kept as a second home for the Jacksons. It contains part of the original cabin, the old doors and rafter still carrying the natural bark. The house was moved from its location on the banks of Roaring Creek to its present site by Reason Teague who build additions to it about 1870.
The family has contributed much to the development of Parke County. Many have been farmers, others teachers, bankers, architects, doctors, civil servants. Reason Teague, son of Henry, served in the Civil War with Co. B-150 Reg. Indiana Volunteers, was a founder ot the Marshall Baptist Church and a Sunday-school teacher there. His two sons, Edgar and Ernest, continued the family tradition of public service. Edgar became a banker and served as Parke County treasurer for two terms. He and his wife Merza (May) were active in the Methodist Church where he was treasurer for 20 years and she a leader of youth groups. He left Park Couonty in 1932 to be a co-founder of the Kentland Bank in Kentland, IN. Ernest was a well-loved teacher is several of the county’s schools.
The commission to serve continued as Edgar’s grandsons served their country as army officers
– Teague Jackson with the artillery at Ft. Lewis, WA in the years 1961-63, and his brother , Charles seeing active duty in Viet Nam.
Since Henry and his wife, Martha (Frazier) had 12 children, many of whom continued to live in Parke County, there are many names of note familiar to native families including Engle, Beeson, McIntyre, McDaniel and Hutton.

1900 census for Sanger, Fresno Co., CA was too light to read, but could make out Dora, a name that Sarah evidently used off and on for the remander of her life, age 29; George, Frederick, age 22, and one name that was unreadable.
